In Crazy Times – Find Joy, Give Joy!

No matter where you live, these are Crazy times we live in.  But quilting, sewing, and embroidery enthusiasts have it a little easier as we can typically find joy when we take time to create, as well as learn new skills and techniques.  Likewise, we can easily give joy when we create a gift for someone who needs joy, as well as when we teach someone how to quilt, sew and/or embroider.  Thus, I want to encourage everyone to Find Joy and Give Joy.

I also want to heighten awareness of four great QAL/SAL which I’m sure all the participants will find joy and ultimately give joy.  Consider inviting your friends to join you and enjoy a QAL/SAL with friends virtually!

AURIFIL/SUSAN ACHE’S SANCTUARY QAL/SAL

A QAL/SAL planned for this coming summer was renamed the Sanctuary QAL/SAL and recently released.  This fun event is hosted by Aurifil and Susan Ache, with 48 little motifs to stitch.  Patterns will be available on Aurifil’s Free Patterns page and they’ll be sharing via Instagram & Facebook stories.  QuiltShopGal also thinks this would be a great way to teach your kids to quilt and/or the art of stitchery!

LEAH DAY/DREAM BIG QUILT ALONG

Leah Day is hosting a fun quilt along using a Dream Big Panel.  You can join this event for free and learn how to do ruler work (or pursue regular FMQ) and turn your panel into a Wallhanging, or just about anything. Leah will also be showing how you can turn two panels into a wearable item!

Leah has created an optional Dream Big Guide, which QuiltShopGal highly recommends. It is 25 pages packed with info to help you quilt a Dream Big Panel, including a list of supplies and detailed instructions with visuals.  It is a great downloadable resource to use along with the free video QAL Leah is releasing weekly on her Youtube channel.  The guidebook also shares insights on how to use a panel to create a really cool jacket.  And, the Dream Big Guide is currently on sale for only sale $4.99 (super steal).  Here are some links for more info on this fun QAL.

Angela is hosting another free-motion quilting challenge which officially kicks off April 10th.  The focus of this challenge will be FMQ Echoes and Curves.  Angela has created a stunning pre-printed panel, which is perfect for this FMQ Challenge.  Of course, you can also apply tutorials for this challenge to practice sandwiches, a UFO, or just about any quilt you desire.  It is free to participate in this challenge.  But QuiltShopGal highly recommends using Angela’s panel, to help your learning what is covered in this challenge.

Clearly, there are loads of fun for quilters during these crazy times.  Please feel free to leave a comment with any ideas you have (or share on my Facebook page).

Don’t forget to spread joy.  There are so many kids going crazy at home (or driving their parents crazy), this is also a great time to teach kids to quilt, sew, be creative.  I’ll be trying to heighten awareness of these opportunities to spread joy in the near future, but as always, I’d love to hear your ideas too!
