Do you feel there is a “sisterhood” of scraps? Have you ever shared and/or traded scraps with other quilters? Well, QuiltShopGal definitely believes in this sisterhood and to my delight, I want to share insights today about a new book that is truly packed with #CreativeGoodness and a “must-have” book for those who have already joined this sisterhood, or would like to do so in the future.
Sisterhood of Scraps – 12 Brilliant Quilts from 7 Fantastic Designers. by Lissa Alexander and published by Martingale. This book will certainly spark creativity for those that love scrap quilts!
What happens when famed quilt designer Lissa Alexander invites her quilting friends to create scrap quilts alongside her? Scrapalicious magic! Lissa reached out to six quilters whose quilt designs she’s long admired–Susan Ache, Kim Brackett, Barbara Brackman, Sheryl Johnson, Laurie Simpson, and Sandy Klop. The result? Spectacular scrap quilts from true masters of the craft, and an invitation for YOU to join the Sisterhood of Scraps!
Choose from 12 quilts inspired by everything from simple Four Patches to Trip Around the World designs to Log Cabins and more. Start a quilting bee, build a community, and bring new sisters into the fold as you make these stunning projects. Inside you’ll find your Sisterhood of Scraps certificate–hang it in your sewing space to show that you’re a proud member of the Sisterhood of Scraps.
All of the projects in this book are lovely scrappy designs which range in finished size from 18” x 19 1/2″ to 86″” x 86″. And are made from scraps that range in cut size of 1 1/2″ x 1 1/2″ to 6 1/2″ x 6 1/2″ cut squares, as well as rectangles and strips. All sizes of scraps many could find in their stash, but don’t overlook the instructions also provide yardage requirement should you want to purchase coordinated fabrics for the projects in this book.
And, in keeping with the high standards Martingale sets for publishing, all of the designs come with easy to follow instructions and great visuals. I found the overall theme of the book, as well as every page, absolutely delightful. I’ll simply wrap up my review with a quote from the book “”Scraps are meant to be shared – find your sisters and commence swapping!”
As always, I hope you get a chance to check out this book at your favorite quilt shop. If you don’t see it, do let them know you are interested in having them make it available. It is such a new book they may simply not be aware of it (but there is also a good chance they’ve already sold out and need to order more). You can also check it out online at Martingale, as well as Amazon.
