Fall Craft Show – Day #1

First, I want to recognize that today is Veterans Day in the US and I want to recognize and thank all Veterans world wide.  A day doesn’t go by where I don’t appreciate my freedoms and realize that I would not be able to enjoy these freedoms if it weren’t for Veterans.  Thank you.

As I’ve been asked by several people why I’m not charging for this event, I want to share a few thoughts with you.  Over the years I’ve helped lead, as well as volunteer for various charity fundraisers.  I’ve even hosted a couple of virtual fundraisers, as well as call for quilts to help charity programs, as well as emergency situations for those in need.  I also started blogging to help “those in the business”, when the economy went in the tank in 2007/2008.  I like to write my own opinions and do not ask for money to do what I do.  This is my way of paying back those that make our world of quilting, sewing & embroidery so much fun. And, for this “Craft Fair”, those creative individuals who make things that they sell, to earn money to support their families or supplement their income. And, I hope you appreciate handmade as much as I do.

Bottom line:  While this event is not a fundraiser, I hope if you enjoy this Fall Craft Fair you will find your own way to recognize a Veteran, or help a Veteran in need, or a Military Family in need. I don’t care how you do it.  You might find a Veteran that you can make a quilt or other item for.  Or maybe pay their bill at a coffee shop or restaurant.  On the other hand, I do want to heighten awareness that Operation Homefront is a great program that is focused on helping low-income military families (eng. entry enlisted men and their families), as well as Veterans.  While they always appreciate $$$ donations, they also appreciate a donation of baby quilts (for the baby showers that they hold for wives when their spouse is deployed in a war zone), gift certificates to help military families at Christmas, etc.. They actually keep a list on their website showing their needs, which creative people can help within more ways than you may realize. This isn’t a fundraiser, but if you enjoy this Fall Craft Fair, I do hope you’ll consider finding a way to help out Veterans, or young military families,  in any way you can. Ok, enough.  Time to kick off our virtual Fall Craft Fair and have fun.
