Today I get to share insights about a new quilting book that also shares history about Civil War Quilts, as well as amazing women who followed their passions and involved themselves in helping others. And, I want to tell you about a giveaway where you can win a copy of this new book too!
Beyond the Battlefield: 14 Scrappy Civil War Quilts, by Mary Etherington and Connie Tesene, published by Martingale.
While this new book is absolutely a “must have” for any quilter who enjoys historical quilts, it is also a fun book to learn more about strong women that stand out during the Civil War period.
From beloved design team Country Threads comes this all-new collection of patterns inspired by quilts from the Civil War era. Mary Etherington and Connie Tesene’s signature make-do style comes to life in 14 quilts, from small, simple tributes to larger quilts featuring hundreds of scrap fabrics.
Projects are paired with period photographs and fascinating true stories of unsung heroines of the Civil War, from women who disguised themselves as soldiers to others who became doctors, nurses, and even spies in order to serve. Whether you’re a fan of traditional designs, Civil War fabrics, or scrappy-to-the-max patterns, these stunning quilts are sure to inspire.
I’ll confess I absolutely love quilts from the Civil War period, as well as quilt books that share historical insights. The designs in this book would be delightful in any color palette, as well as easily made to reflect quilts of current decorating trends, as they are timeless designs! Still, I think there is something special about the traditional designs and colors. They just capture comfort.
The projects in this book range in size from 21 1/2″x 21 1/2″ to 70 1/2″ x 70 1/2″ and each comes with easy to follow instructions and great visuals. And when you consider the cost of a standalone book, with 14 projects provided in this book it certainly comes at a very reasonable price.
I hope you get a chance to check out this new book at your favorite quilt store. Of course, if you don’t see it be sure to let them know you would like to seem them make it available. It is such a new book, they may not be aware of it. You can also check this book out online at Martingale, as well as Amazon.
