Welcome to day 10 of our 12 Days of Christmas Giveaways. I can honestly say I love all things EQ (Electric Quilt), thus I’m absolutely thrilled to have them as a sponsor for this event. This year they’ve been celebrating their 25th Anniversary and QuiltShopGal, as well as several blogging friends, have been releasing posts on the 10th of every month, with tips, tutorials, inspiration and even giveaways along the way. While I wasn’t able to release such a post on the 10th of this month, due to my website hijacking, I’m happy to being back in the saddle again. And, today, I want to share insights with you about EQ, some freebies, my recommended approach to learning EQ Software, some great tutorials for learning and other opportunities, as well as a host a giveaway where anyone around the world can enter to win (website hijacker wackos will be disqualified as they take the fun out of creativity for all of us).
Who remembers when EQ#1 was released in 1991? I quickly fell in love with EQ software. And have happily used EQ#2, #3, #5, #6, #7 as well as EQStitch. I missed EQ4 simply because life got in the way.
While I wasn’t good at keeping packages, or artwork, of my EQ journey, I was delighted that Karen (Sew Karen-ly Created), who also began using EQ#1, had kept the packaging for most of the EQ software releases and gave me permission to share.
Who remembers the original install process for EQ software using multiple CDs? Amazing to think how we can now download software and quickly install vs loading multiple CDs. Technology has certainly changed.
Who remembers “The Floppy Gazette”? The original EQ Newsletters came in the mail, and like the more modern email newsletters, they have always been packed with tips, tutorials, EQ News, inspiration, as well as insights on new products.
Over the years, The Electric Quilt Company has released many amazing software packages that help quilters create. I strongly feel had it not been for the EQ team, our world of quilting would not be as wonderful as it is today. We certainly would not have as many designers and authors releasing sharing their designs, if they all had to design on paper vs computer.
EQ also partnered with Quiltmaker to releasing 8 different collections of Quiltmaker’s Quilting Designs. These can work as standalone software packages, or within EQ7, which allows you to audition quilting designs on your quilts, as well as print out in any size, to use to stitch out on your projects.
The Stash collections are some of my favorite EQ products, as each release of Stash contains the new fabric collections from top fabric manufacturers. They are very reasonable and certainly would make a great gift for EQ software users.
EQ has a variety of bound books that are excellent resources to learn/improve your EQ skills. They are easy to follow with great visuals, all at a reasonable price, making them another great gift idea for any EQ user.
EQ has a variety of printables, including inkjet fabric sheets and foundation quilting. I’ll admit the EQ “Lawn” printable fabric has become my absolute favorite printable fabric. I think any of these products would make for great gifts for any quilter, regardless if they use EQ software or not.

EQ University was launched in 2014 with new classes being offered all the time. I can honestly recommend these classes to anyone interested in learning/improving your EQ skills. They are well organized, taught my experts, include written and video tutorials, that you can repeat as often as you wish, plus during the official scheduled class you get access to an expert to help with your questions, all for a very reasonable price. Yes, a EQ University Class would also make a great Christmas gift for any EQ software user.
DID I MENTION FREEBIES?
Free Fabric of the Month – While EQ7 comes with a fabric library, every month EQ releases a new set of digital fabrics that you can download and use in your software, for free.
Free Lessons / Tutorials – The EQ Team has a great list of lessons on their website and also share more tips and tutorials on their blog. For newbies, I recommend the approach of “15 minutes of playtime per day in EQ”, where you can start, stop, repeat any lesson till you feel it is part of your muscle memory. Focus on one functionality in EQ at a time, so you don’t feel intimidated with this robust software package. You’ll be amazed how much fun you’ll have and how much you will learn in a short time.
Club EQ is a great way to learn/improve your skills by participating in monthly challenges where all participants share their design files.
EQ University – has a free “Quick Start” class, that is perfect for newbies, as well as those that may simply want to check out what EQ University is all about.
DID I MENTION A GIVEAWAY?
Actually, there are two different giveaways where you could win a prize from the Electric Quilt Company:
EQ sponsored our bloggers celebration of the #EQ25 Anniversary, with our final posts released on the 10th of December. You can enter to win a copy of EQ Mini by visiting Marian @ Seams to be Sew.
Electric Quilt is also our sponsor today, for our 12 Days of Christmas Giveaways event, and will be giving a special Christmas Gift, to one lucky winner, any place in the world.
Are you ready to learn what this gift is?
EQ is giving a copy of their new EQ Mini software. This is great software for those wanting to learn to design quilts, but not yet ready for the more robust EQ7 software. Think of it as a scaled down version of EQ7, but owners of EQ Mini also have an optional upgrade path to EQ7, should they later want to upgrade. And, EQ Mini is available at a very reasonable price, making it also a perfect Christmas Gift, While you may want Santa to bring you a copy of EQ Mini, or other EQ products, don’t overlook EQ Mini as a perfect gift for a kid, or grandkid that may want to become a future quilt designer!
To enter, simply claim one or more of the options in the Rafflecopter form below.
Here are links to my prior posts for these monthly #EQ25 celebrations, many include tutorials. And all include links to posts by blogging friends who are also sharing EQ tips, tutorials and inspirational projects on the 10th of each month, to help with the EQ 25th Anniversary Celebration:
